Sun Summit South

Welcome to Sun Summit South. We are a small, local ski and bicycle shop located in the east central mountain region of Idaho, 12 miles south of world famous Sun Valley, in the community of Hailey. Sitting at an elevation of 5350 feet, we definitely enjoy a true four season year. Cycling season begins in mid to late March and most years lasts into the first weeks of November. The winter months increase as you travel to the north along with the snowpack surrounding peaks.

Operating out of a 100 plus year old refurbished house on Main Street in bustling Hailey with a staff of three, the shop is a vibratn and unique place that has the aura of the "euro shop" model. During the winter months, the shop reserves the right to close and enjoy an impromptu ski outing. In the summer, the shop assumes the guise of the more normal, operating from 8AM to 6PM - with an earlier Thursday closing time for going on bike rides dependent upon sunset time. Really it is to allow early morning family time and evening riding bliss. You see, because of the proximity to the time zone boundary, it stays light until late into the evening after it has cooled off and most folks are deep in a food coma. It makes for a lot of late night BBQs, but where would you rather be?

We opened the shop on May 18th 1994 to provide the community with a high quality product, expert level service, and enthusiast based expertice. This has not changed in the past 24 years - we truly are a shop run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts. We are actively involved in advocacy, promotion and, most importantly, we have never lost sight that we are in the business of selling fun.

We strive to be at the epicenter of the sports that we are involved in. We do not sell everything that is available to us, i.e. tents, sleeping bags, scooters, or fly fishing. We do not sell coffee, beer, or serve food - although we love all of those things. We live the sports we "do" and try to pass that enthusiasm on to the people we meet in the shop, out on the trails, or though the web.

We ride dirt and road, we ski alpine and Nordic, we hike to ski, and sometimes we compete, but we don't think of ourselves as "racers" (not that there is anything wrong with racing). Most of all, we take a smile away from most everything that we do, how we do it, and where it may take us.
